The PVC foam contains "expandable graphite sheet" in the butyl rubber layer.The material expands in volume when heated, creating a noncombustible insulating layer that protects the substrate from heat and air.It also slows the spread of fires and minimizes the production of toxic gases and smoke, one of the most harmful effects of burning.
Expandable graphite is a halogen free material and an economical solution to reduce flammability.Therefore, PVC foam has good flame retardant behavior equivalent to the UL94 preliminary flammability test during the v-0 rating.
